The EVA Air Brisbane Marathon Festival is proud to support Cure Cancer as one of our Major Beneficiaries. Cancer touches too many lives, and partnering with Cure Cancer helps fund research that brings real hope to families across Australia.
Many of our runners carry deeply personal reasons for hitting the road. One supporter, Steve, shared how early loss shaped his life: after losing his dad as a child and later other family members to cancer, “I wanted it to mean something.”
Turning grief into action became his path forward. Supporting Cure Cancer, he says, is “about more than research… it’s about hope,” and the chance to spare another child from growing up without a parent.
Running now plays a vital role in Steve’s coping and purpose. “Running for hours feels easier than sitting with the loss of people you love,” he explains — a physical way to process emotion and honour those he’s lost.
Steve also offers compassion to those facing cancer: “You don’t have to be strong all the time.” Take things one day at a time, lean on the people around you, and hold onto whatever brings comfort and hope.
